how we created a greener website

This website was created with the intention of reducing its environmental impact and making more mindful digital choices. Like sustainability itself, the way this site is built has evolved over time. Some decisions were experimental, others practical, all guided by a desire to create a lighter digital footprint without compromising clarity or accessibility.

The average web page produces around 0.80 g of CO₂ per visit. According to the Website Carbon Calculator, this page currently produces approximately 0.12 g of CO₂ per visit.

The internet already accounts for a significant share of global greenhouse gas emissions, and that number continues to grow. These realities inspired us to think more carefully about how a digital presence can exist with less impact.

a considered digital approach

Rather than aiming for perfection, this website was built around a few core principles:

  • Simplicity over excess
Minimal structure and fewer unnecessary elements help reduce data transfer and energy use.

  • Content first
A typography-led layout keeps pages lightweight while remaining clear and accessible.

  • Efficient structure
Key information lives on a single scrolling page, reducing the need to load multiple pages.

  • Responsible infrastructure
The site is hosted on a platform powered by renewable energy.

Design choices evolve, and this website continues to change over time. While not every decision is driven solely by carbon reduction, sustainability remains a guiding consideration.

progress, not perfection

Creating a greener website is an ongoing process. By sharing this approach, we hope to encourage more thoughtful conversations around digital sustainability — and show that even small, intentional choices online can make a difference.
